Shakur Stevenson blasted Gervonta Davis in an interview, pointing out that he used weight stipulations on his opponents and facing “less talented fighters” to make himself look better than him.
WBC lightweight champion Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) became angry when told that Gervonta was not impressed with his record and asked what he did in his career to make him want to fight. Tank shut down any possibility of a fight against Shakur, considering him unworthy to meet the king. It’s true. Shakur is entirely unable to be in his presence.
It was Shakur’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, who discussed the idea of fighting Tank Davis in 2025. Hearn outlined 2025 for the native of Newark, New Jersey, talking about him fighting these three:
- Floyd Schofield
- Guglielmo Zepeda
- Gervonta Davis
Now, Shakur is still blabbing like a fight with Tank Davis is a forgone conclusion, without him saying anything. Tank is like, “What is this guy talking about?” Shakur is like a spoiled child, used to getting what he wants, and throwing a fit when someone says no.
Stevenson needs to give Edwin De Los Santos a rematch, show he can fight without running, and then face Andy Cruz. The Cuban talent is a better version of Shakur, but with offense, power and a willingness to commit. If Cruz were a computer, he’d be the next generation over Shakur, a clumsy, outdated, early 2000s model that froze on the pages.
Weight Drain charges
“He doesn’t look real. No disrespect to him, but I’m a real person. I’m not going to go out there and act like Tank’s not a good fighter,” Shakur Stevenson told Boxing newsHe reacts to being told that Gervonta Davis said he was not impressed with his record, and shut down rumors of the two meeting in the ring because he sees no value in Shakur’s fight.
“The same way you ask what I did for the sport of boxing, I think you should look in the mirror and ask the same question because it’s like what you did?” continued Shakur on Tank Davis. “Even the guys you took out were all in a weight clause, a weight drain. It looks good to the public and people who don’t know, but I’m a fighter. I know what happens. I know what you do.
“Taking less talented fighters and putting them in the ring with you and making them look like they’re on their level, but they’re not. Until I fight an elite level fighter, I don’t want to hear anything from him,” Shakur said.
What Gervonta says is 100% true. Who did Shakur fight during his career? No one good. He beat a couple of washed-up fighters at 130, captured three card titles against weak opposition, and looked like hell since moving up to 135. He was booted out of the arena in his fight against Edwin De Los Santos, and the fans fled. led into his last fight against the weak-punching Artem Harutyunyan last July in his hometown of Newark.
“Fight someone I’ve fought!”
“He (Tank) acted like he couldn’t have many people in the ring. Why didn’t he try to take Edwin De Los Santos? Why wouldn’t it be a fight you want? Since you want to talk bad about me, fight someone I wrestled with. And you talked about my performance. So, get over me,” Shakur said.
Tank fighting Edwin De Los Santos wouldn’t do anything for him and his career because that guy hasn’t fought in 14 months. He reportedly lost to Stevenson, and by the time Gervonta fought him in August or September, he would have been inactive for 21 months.
Shakur’s stock has fallen since he was exposed as a chicken runner by De Los Santos on November 16, 2023. He did nothing to turn things around by fighting a rematch with him or waiting bravely in his next fight against the light Arten Harutyunyan. .
