Shakur Stevenson thinks Turki Al-Shiekh will make the mega-fight between him and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in 2025 once he meets the Baltimore native. Tank will have a high price for the fight. He already said he wants $150 million to fight Ryan Garcia. You might want a similar amount to fight the non-engaging Stevenson.
Can Al-Shiekh deliver?
Stevenson believes Al-Shiekh will be someone worth fighting for Tank (30-0, 28 KOs). This decision will prevent Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) from winning his next fight against Floyd Schofield on February 22 in Riyadh next month.
Another bad performance for Stevenson could sink his chances for a fight against Davis because the last thing he wants to fight is a runner who doesn’t want to stand and engage.
Shakur is just trying to win on points with his hit-and-run style, assuming the judges will give him the decision. He almost lost to Edwin De Los Santos, and was chased around the ring by Robeisy Ramirez at the Olympics and beaten.
“He is a good person. I am happy that I had the opportunity to meet him. I appreciate him for the opportunity, and now I can show who I am,” said Shakur Stevenson to Pro Boxing fans about Turki Al-Shiekh putting him on his February 22 card in Riyadh against Floyd Schofield.
“Tell him, ‘Don’t run,'” Stevenson said of his message that he wants Schofield to be told for his fight next month. “He can try before looking for a knockout. Once he realizes that he can’t get it, then he has to put it on the back foot.
“I think it’s going to be a tremendous fight. I think he (Turki) will save boxing. So, once Tank gets with him, I think the fights will happen,” Shakur said about his belief that Turki Al-Shiekh will make the fight between him and Gervonta Davis once he meets the Baltimore native.
“He looks like a businessman. I think he wants to make as much money as possible in the sport of boxing. Good for him,” Shakur said, reacting to being told that Tank wants $150 million for his rematch with Ryan Garcia for what happens.
Stevenson’s injury problems
In recent workouts, WBC lightweight champion Shakur used only his left hand and tapped carefully with his surgically repaired right hand.
That fragile looking right hand of his looks like it could fall almost immediately once Floyd puts him under pressure in the first round. Stevenson will have no choice but to use it to try to keep the ambitious Schofield promoted from Golden Boy.
If he fights the 22-year-old Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) with just one gun, he will have to run all night to avoid being overwhelmed by the young man’s power shots.
