In an emotional first half, Amaury Morales was awarded a penalty after crossing three marks and entering the area; Angel Sepulveda converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute.
The Rojinégros responded in the second half on 52, with Eduardo Aguirre sending a filtered pass to Djurdjević, who made it 1-1 before Colombian goalkeeper Kevin Meier departed.
Meier prevented Cruz Azul from falling in the 72nd minute by denying Uros Djurdjevic’s right-footed shot.
