Canelo Alvarez met Turki Al-Shiekh today and said there is “a chance” of a fight between him and Terence Crawford. He says he’s always looking to make the “best deals.”
Turki hopes to set up a fight between Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford in 2025 because it is one of the biggest fights that could take place in North America this year. It remains to be seen if he can make this fight.
Canelo looking for ‘better deals’
Crawford, 37, has not yet said what he will do if he can’t fight Canelo. We know that Terence’s age and fighting at 154 against younger, stronger and bigger fighters will eventually result in a loss. He almost lost his last fight, his debut at 154 against WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3 last year.
“There is always a chance here. We will see, but there is always a chance here to make the best offers, and there is always a chance,” said Canelo Alvarez to Ring magazine when asked if a fight between him and Terence Crawford is possible next.
“I think it’s going to be another good fight. Both fighters are good fighters. So I think they both have a chance to win,” Canelo said of the Feb. 22 rematch between undisputed lightweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh.
Former world division champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) wants to challenge Canelo for their unified super middleweight titles this year. He thinks he has the talent to overcome his size disadvantage. Crawford believes he has enough size and skill to defeat Canelo.
The Mexican star is showing signs of slowing down in his last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia. These are fighters that Canelo likely would have knocked out in 2021 and before, but he was forced to take a 12-round decision to beat them.
